The National Mouse Archive

Search our archive for a gene or allele, to discover more about our lines and to place an order

The National Mouse Archive is a repository for the collection, archiving and distribution of mouse strains developed to promote a cooperative future in mouse genetic research. Our service safeguards germplasm collected from unique mouse strains curated from MRC Harwell researchers and external depositors. The archive also acts as the UK node for the European Mouse Mutant Archive (EMMA) operated by the INFRAFRONTIER research infrastructure, in which MRC Harwell is a long-term partner. Holding over 3000 unique mouse strains, our archive is accessible for the biomedical science community worldwide.

The National Mouse Archive web portal provides searchable access to:

  • Mouse strains originating from MRC Harwell
  • Strains held at Harwell on behalf of the European Mouse Mutant Archive (EMMA) and independent researchers
  • Resources generated from specific projects like the Mary Lyon Centre’s Genome Editing Mice for Medicine (GEMM), the IMPC, the Harwell Aging Screen, data on imprinting genes and other resources

Mouse stocks may be held as either live mice or frozen materials and can be ordered directly from the National Mouse Archive portal by clicking the “contact” link on the various stock and variant pages.

Alternatively, if you are looking to archive one or more of your mouse strains, please visit our Archiving and Distribution Services page.
